In England, the official portrait of Charles III, created by the painter Jonathan Yeo, was unveiled. It did not leave many British people indifferent.
Charles III unveiled his first official portrait since the coronation. Many Britons expected a more consensual picture. “I saw it on the internet, I didn’t think it was true”, judges one of them. The color red floods the portrait, which often confuses the public, who sometimes see “something bloody”.
Internet users have hijacked the image on social networks, seeing Satanist references in it. The painter, Jonathan Yeo, explains that color “was inspired by the bright red outfit of the Scottish Guards”. He added a monarch butterfly, an endangered species, an idea of Charles III to symbolize metamorphosis and rebirth. The king seems to have appreciated the painting.
