The July 14 parade will not be held on the Champs-Elysées in 2024. “We are one year away from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and next year [le 14 juillet 2024]the Olympic flame will illuminate our parade between Vincennes and the Nation”, said Emmanuel Macron, Thursday, July 13. During a speech at the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the Head of State added: “You will be engaged in your domestic missions to help secure these world-class events. Some of you will also participate in the competitions and we will all be behind them.”
The Parisian mentions the reason for the work: “The Place de la Concorde will be under construction. We will set up the infrastructure there for new urban sports disciplines such as skateboarding”wrote the newspaper in June.
The parade on the Champs-Elysées, a recent tradition
The parade has not always been organized on the Champs-Elysées. It was first held on the Longchamp racecourse before coming for the first time to the most famous avenue in the world in 1919, echoing the Great War. After the Second World War and until 1980, the location of the celebration changed regularly. “It was not until 1980 that the ceremony settled permanently on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées”specifies the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
