The mayor of the town of Canteleu (Seine-Maritime) is suspected of being involved in a drug trafficking case. No link has yet been formally established between her and the traffickers, but a long spinning process has brought to light suspicious elements.

It’s a case worthy of a television series. For many years, a well-identified family in Canteleu (Seine-Maritime), the Meziani, has been running a lucrative drug trafficking business bringing them around ten million euros a year. Indicted in April 2022 with one of his deputies, the mayor of the city, Mélanie Boulanger, is in the sights of investigators. Nevertheless, some locals support her. “I think she’s an honest woman, I still trust her“, testifies an administrator.

The investigation went up to the town hall after a utility was seized in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis). The vehicle belonged to a kebab shop whose owner was one of the deputy mayors of Canteleu. After weeks of spinning and spying, investigators overheard a threatening conversation between the mayor and two people from the Meziani clan. The Norman city councilor recognizes pressures: “I know where you live, I know where your family goes to school“. She claims not to have given in and her lawyer says he is scandalized by a charge of complicity in trafficking. She is still presumed innocent.
