“Today we have leading women who are in leading ministries”estimates Maud Bregeon, spokesperson for Michel Barnier’s government, guest of France Bleu Poitou on Friday September 27. “I am always amazed that we focus on what we call sovereign ministries”she comments, taking the example of ministries headed by two women: “Will the Department of Justice [avec à sa tête Didier Migaud] is more important than the Ministry of National Education [avec Anne Genetet] ? I don’t think so. Does the Ministry of the Interior [Bruno Retailleau] is more important than the Ministry of Health [Geneviève Darrieussecq] ? I don’t think so either.”

She still quotes “Agnès Pannier-Runacher who is on Ecology, probably the most important challenge of the coming century. This is proof that the Prime Minister makes no difference”. The Ministry for Equality between Women and Men is, however, only a State Secretariat, but Maud Bregeon assures: “I pay little attention to the denominations and ranks of each person. What matters to me is the commitment of the Prime Minister.”

According to her, when Michel Barnier called her to offer to join his government, “one of the things he spoke to me about was the importance for him of parity within his government, of the place of women within his government and of this cause that he wanted to support”. For her, “this is the most important and then we will have to follow up with actions”concludes Maud Bregeon.
