The French Rugby Federation is currently undergoing a cyberattack, according to information from franceinfo from a source familiar with the matter on Thursday June 22. The attack is claimed by the cybercriminal group “Play” which threatens to disseminate confidential information from the FFR.

The “Play” hacker group says it is in possession of sensitive personal data belonging to FFR employees, “customers”, including passports. The cybercriminals do not give details about the volume of data that has been stolen. The pirates give until June 27 to negotiate with the FFR.

Contacted by franceinfo, the French Rugby Federation indicates that this attack occurred on the night of June 7 to 8 and that it “mainly affected mail servers”. From the known attack, “the FFR teams quickly took measures to eliminate the malware”. The FFR which ensures that it has not received a ransom demand to date “and will not wish to respond to it if necessary”.

Also according to the FFR, the IT department has secured the entire system and restored its operation. “The federation has also entered into contact with the police services which accompany it in the management of the situation and with which the FFR collaborates closely.

On Wednesday evening, the Rennes University Hospital was already the victim of a cyberattack, the origin and motivations of which remain unknown. On Twitter, the hospital center specifies that this cyberattack did not “no impact on the support of [ses] patient”.
