Reims took on the colors of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this Friday, July 22. The flags of the Olympics were passing through the city, notably at the Stade Georges Hébert. Throughout the morning, the children of the Clairmarais neighborhood center were able to try out different athletic disciplines.
Sophia rushes forward, jumps both feet forward and lands in a large sandbox. She has just tested the long jump. “We have sand full of hands and shoesshe laughs. But it’s too good because you can’t get hurt!ance“A little further on another group of children are throwing tennis balls. “I have gone at least twenty meters!” shouts one of them. Another shouts louder “Me, 25!“
Stars of French sport as an observer
All these smiles delight Emilie Gomis, former tricolor basketball international and ambassador of the Terre de Jeux 2024 operation: “That’s the basis of sport, making young people want to surpass themselves! Not to push them to reach the top level. And who knows? Maybe some will find a vocation there…“
Some of these children even caught the eye of the Entente Family Stade Reims athletics club: “We found a little boy with a red cap who has facilities for the long jumpobserves Amandine educator at the club. He’s ready to come and test himself with us!“
A dynamic around the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which is gradually taking hold in Reims. Something to delight the Marnais, holder of the 50km walk world record, Yohann Diniz: “The label “2024 playground” will allow us to host several events related to the competition. We already have part of the British delegation which will come to train in Reims. And for me, seeing this future generation of kids playing sports makes me happy!“
