The Agricultural Show opens its doors to the public on Saturday 25 February. While preparations are in full swing, meeting with Nicolas Batifol, an Aubrac breeder.

It’s the hard law of beauty contests, you have to constantly repeat the crossing of the podium. Tedious work for Owen, an Aubrac bull. Nicolas Batifol, breeder in Le Buisson (Lozère), ensures: “He’s happy because we’re going to take care of him. He’s going to be pampered in Paris. He’s going to have a good time.” on February 24, Owen will take part in the Aubrac breed competition at the Salon de l’Agriculture. He comes from a line of champions. Owen and his parents spearhead this operation.

A showcase of the profession

Here, we don’t produce meat, we produce mums. Indeed, the farm is specialized in the genetic selection of Aubrac and the Paris agricultural competition is a showcase for the profession. If the Aubracs are stars today, until recently the breed almost disappeared. Originally, this cow had been selected to withstand the harshness of the plateau which gave it its name. But, in the 1960s, roughness was sacrificed in favor of productivity. The trend is now reversed.
