The summer of 2022 was also catastrophic for emergencies. This was particularly the case in Orléans, where services are strained. Doctors fear a summer full of dangers.

Moving a screen to let a stretcher pass and make room for new patients is the daily life of doctors in the emergency room corridor of Orléans (Loiret). “We do clinical examinations in the hallways, care in the hallways, patients relieve themselves in the hallways. These are inhuman conditions of care”, explains Dr. Nesrine Nabli. However, the staff takes care of patients like Martine as well as possible. “I admire their work. They are not everywhere enough”emphasizes the patient.

Lack of doctors

At the Orleans hospital, there is a shortage of beds. “This morning, I had a dozen patients to see again who were staying in relief, and who were waiting for a place. For one patient, I called four different services. Each time, the answers are negative. The patient will stay there a little longer”, says Dr. Mathieu Lacroix. The year 2022 has been very complicated, as emergency rooms have often been closed to the public. And it is not likely to improve, while there is still a lack of doctors.
