After Jair Bolsonaro’s defeat in the Brazilian presidential election to Lula on Sunday, October 30, some of his most radical supporters are demanding an army coup.
Using powerful jets of water and tear gas, security forces dispersed roadblocks in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Wednesday, November 2, there were at least 160 left across the country. The demonstrators refuse the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro against Lula, during the second round of the presidential election on Sunday, October 30. The most radical demand an army coup. “We ask today, as in 1964, to activate article 142, which is the code of military intervention so that our country does not become a communist country”says an activist.
Supporters of the far-right incumbent president refuse to acknowledge the victory of the left. “We do not tolerate this thief, criminal Lula governing us”, criticizes a woman. And yet, Jair Bolsonaro was soothing. After two days of silence, he promised to respect all the commandments of the Constitution, but he does not formally recognize his defeat. His staunchest supporters want to fight to the end.
