Emergency doctors at Nevers hospital are worried about the safety of their patients, many of whom sleep on stretchers due to lack of space in the wards. Nearly 1,000 people have been affected for two months.

In the emergency room of Nevers (Nièvre), patients are forced to spend the night in the corridors, on stretchers. Emergency workers chose to sound the alarm. They no longer feel like they can do their job properly. “Before, when there were just five stretchers, that is to say five people sleeping in the emergency room, that revolted us. Now, we have 30 to 35”deplores a member of staff.

New management expected in April

An audit of the operation of the emergency department and the patient journey is underway. The mayor of Nevers therefore has difficulty understanding the initiative of the emergency workers. “We must let this mission happen. It is not to alarm the population unnecessarily. Let the emergency workers do their job, let them distribute the work task optimally”, estimates the latter. The future of emergencies will be one of the main concerns of the next management, expected for the month of April.
