Little Rayan, 5 years old, who was fell into a well in Morocco on Tuesday February 1, did not survive the five days spent at a depth of 32 meters. The country is in mourning as well as all those who hoped for a happy ending.

After five days of an incredible rescue operation, Rayan’s lifeless body was taken away by ambulance on the evening of February 5. Some minutes more soon, his parents, devastated, were informed that there was no more hope. The King of Morocco Mohammed VI himself called the bereaved couple to offer the kingdom’s condolences. Until the end, the crowd massed around the ambulance prayed. They were thousands to encourage the rescuers day and night.


Five-year-old Rayan has become the face of Morocco in just a few days. The boy’s death sparked a huge wave of sympathy across the world. On the networks, many tributes to the boy were returned as well as to the rescuers, who tried everything to rescue the child. Many personalities like Jamel Debbouze and Gad Elmaleh expressed their emotion on their Instagram account. Little Rayan’s face and drawings are all over the web. Rayan’s parents have not yet announced the date of the funeral, but according to Muslim tradition it should take place soon.
