War in Ukraine: the city of Odessa targeted by Russian strikes
(FRANCEINFO)
Russian strikes were launched on Odessa, in southern Ukraine, on Wednesday March 6, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis were traveling.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek Prime Minister, came to pay their respects in front of an improvised memorial, Wednesday March 6, in Odessa (Ukraine). Flowers and toys have been laid in tribute to victims killed in a Russian bombing four days ago. A few minutes after this sequence of contemplation, as the visit continued, a Russian missile fell 150 meters from the delegation. Five people lost their lives.
Ukrainians strengthen their defense
“We were in the port when we heard sirens. Shortly after, as we were getting into our cars, we heard a loud explosion”, says the Greek Prime Minister. For several days, Russian drone and missile attacks have increased on Odessa, located 150 kilometers from the front line, causing dozens of deaths. Further east, the Ukrainians reinforced their defense by laying concrete and digging trenches. They fear an upcoming offensive by the Russian army.
