The Car Guide’s 2022 Best Buys: Toyota Sienna

Like every year, the Car guide publishes its best buys in all vehicle categories.

Although they regularly lose market share to SUVs, minivans are practical and can be of great service to families. The arrival of hybridization has also changed the game, and with the current price of gasoline, these models are becoming even more relevant.

In the minivan niche, the Toyota Sienna, which retains first place in the list of the Car Guide’s team of experts. Renewed last year, the Japanese minivan obviously remains in the game for the 2022 model year.

Only available with a hybrid engine, the Sienna consumes only 6.7 L/100 km on average, which is very low considering its size and weight.

Another important element, the Sienna can be fitted with all-wheel drive, which is a significant advantage in Quebec. And when you add hybridization to all-wheel drive, you get a very capable package. Driving is rather sanitized, but if you are looking for a rational, fuel-efficient vehicle with very good reliability, the Sienna should meet your expectations.

The finalists

Behind the unbeatable Toyota, there are two sisters sold under the Chrysler banner: the Pacifica and the Grand Caravan. Two models that stand out thanks to their pleasant driving, their efficient handling and perfectly adequate performance.

With the Pacifica, you can get a plug-in hybrid model. An important advantage since it is possible to drive about 50 km without consuming gasoline. An all-wheel-drive version is in the catalog, but only on gasoline versions… Too bad.

The higher price of the current Grand Caravan compared to the previous generation also makes it less appealing to those looking for a low-cost family vehicle.

Finally, the last step of the podium goes to a novelty, the Kia Carnival.

Replacing the Sedona, the Korean minivan has clearly raised its level of play. Much better finished than in the past, efficient and safe on the road, it owes its third position only to the absence of an electrified version and an all-wheel drive. Two characteristics that have become essential to claim the first place in the category.
