The competition, considered one of the most influential in the world, has received since its inception in 2000 the best spirits from distilleries from more than 60 countries. In all, more than 5,000 products are blindly judged by the panel of specialists. Le Morbleu had first received the Double Gold medal in April during the preliminary round, recognition awarded only when all the judges of a panel attribute the first position to the same spirit. Quebec spiced rum was thus a finalist in the Best of Class category, an honor that was finally awarded to it this weekend.

“Seeing Morbleu crowned ‘best spiced rum in the world’ positions Mariana as a player of international caliber,” said Philippe Leblanc, owner of Distillerie Mariana, in a press release. It is an honor for us to contribute to the influence of Quebec distilleries by standing out in such a prestigious competition. »

The Mariana distillery, founded in 2015, is due to set up shop next year at the L’Ouvrage agri-food innovation center in downtown Trois-Rivières. It is planning the construction of a new production site in order to increase its production, in particular to accelerate its sales abroad. It already exports its products to France, while it soon plans to expand its distribution to the entire European market as well as to the Asian market.
