Botched
E ! and ME AND CIE
The best known of all. On the air since 2014, this American reality show shows us the daily lives of doctors Terry Dubrow and Paul Nassif, who see patients who are victims of failed plastic procedures: uneven breasts, a monosein, three eyebrows, a human Ken doll, a crooked nose , nipples that are too high, deformed buttock implants, fish lips, a man from Kentucky who wants to look like Michael Jackson… The cases are mind-boggling, to say the least. No need to mention that we watch Botched (in French, Botched surgery) to be – first and foremost – entertained.
rebuild the body
AMI-TV/ICI Explora
Journalist Karina Marceau is interested in people who undergo heavy surgery to rebuild their damaged bodies. This idea was born in 2019, while she was filming her previous documentary series, The long climb, in which she showed the rehabilitation process of four accident victims, which sometimes included the contribution of a plastic surgeon. Karina Marceau witnessed the operations closely. “We wanted to explain the science behind the reconstruction of the bodies. And for that, we wanted to show as many things as possible… while paying attention to sensitivities. And because we want to keep viewers tuned in! »
Skin Decision: Before and After
netflix
On paper, Skin Decision looks like any before/after type makeover show. In each episode, Dr. Sheila Nazarian and expert skin care nurse Jamie meet two patients who want to change their appearance. They hear their stories, listen to their needs and determine which intervention is appropriate: surgical (operation) or not (laser, Botox)? Detail to note: this series of eight episodes received the seal of approval of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, since it moves away from Botched and other reality shows that feature extreme interventions.
Plastic surgery: rebuilding life
ME AND CIE
Crowned best program: health, nature, sciences and environment at the last Gémeaux awards, this documentary series presents the work of four plastic surgeons, including Dr.r Daniel Borsuk, the man behind the first face transplant in Canada. “We didn’t want to talk about facelifts, breast augmentation or fillers, explains Luc Rousseau, producer at Zone 3. We wanted to talk about the talent of surgeons in Quebec and provide access to interventions that change lives. . Among the operations shown so far is the amputation of a toe to replace a severed thumb during a work accident. Good news: a new season is currently in production.
Plastic Surgery Undressed
BBC Three
People planning to have plastic surgery are encouraged to watch a doctor perform the same operation on someone else. The first season of the British show looked at breast augmentation, breast reduction, hair transplantation, rhinoplasty (modifying the structure of the nose) and abdominoplasty (shrinking and improving the appearance of the belly) . The sometimes explicit images of the interventions, to show the risks associated with them, provoke all sorts of reactions. With the help of professionals, the participants then decide whether to go ahead or not.
Injections and scalpels
Channel Life
A documentary series of observation which shows the extent of medico-aesthetic care (labiaplasty, reduction of the forehead, injections…) without however adopting the look of an infomercial. “We wanted to show the truth, the highs, the lows,” says content producer Annie Fortin. Remember that some things are very expensive and don’t last long. We show that there is nothing perfect, that each intervention involves risks. And that it takes time before being delivered to 100%. Several personalities participate in the show, including Marie-Claude Savard, Sébastien Trudel, Isabelle Racicot, Lyne Ste-Marie and Cœur de pirate.
