The 13 Hours takes you to the heart of the Queyras natural park. Friday March 8, head to the Pic de Château-Renard observatory, the highest in France, located at almost 3,000 meters above sea level. Tourists and amateur astronomers are welcomed there by its caretaker, Sébastien Brouillard.

It is said that the mountains of Queyras are so high that the rooster pecks at the stars there. In Saint-Véran (Hautes-Alpes), ski hikers decided to approach them to see if they could unhook them. It is a little hidden in the middle of the mountains that we discover the surprising domes of the Pic de Château-Renard observatory. It is the highest observatory in France, located at almost 3,000 meters above sea level.

An observatory built by the CNRS

It is in this observatory that a family from the Jura will spend the night and touch the world of professional astronomy. In the 1970s, this observatory was built by the CNRS. From now on, its guardian, Sébastien Brouillard, welcomes amateur astronomers and passing tourists. In one of the domes, they discovered a telescope around sixty years old. This allows you to magnify 300 times. It is once the sun has eclipsed that this unique site reveals all its possibilities, by observing the Moon. The next day, shortly after 7 a.m., the first rays of the sun hit Mount Viso, the emblematic peak of Queyras.
