On the diplomatic front, talks between Ukraine and Russia progressed on Tuesday, March 29. The positions of the two camps are becoming clearer and a meeting between the two presidents would be possible.
Russians and Ukrainians were face to face at the negotiating table on Tuesday, March 29. Both sides claim to have taken a step forward. The Russians have announced a reduction in bombardments in northern Ukraine, even if the numerous strikes of the day call for caution. Moscow (Russia) asks kyiv (Ukraine) to renounce NATO, and to commit to neutrality.
Ukraine demands quid pro quos on its security: that Russia opposes neither an international agreement on its protection nor its membership of the European Union, hitherto the object of intense tensions. Ukrainian negotiators ensure that “enough documents have been drawn up to allow the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation”. In the meantime, the negotiations in Istanbul (Turkey) are being conducted by official delegations and shadow mediators, such as the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, filmed in the morning.
