Both in their early forties, Norwegian composers Jenny Hval and Håvard Volden delve into the nostalgia of their 1990s trainers on Selvutslettera second duo album less captivating and refined than Menneskekollektivetjewel of the musical year 2021. Hval and Volden still keep drum machines and synthesizers in their artillery, but abandoning the dance floor for the somewhat dirty concert halls of pop and alternative rock of yesteryear. at thirty years old — sweetness on June 1996more biting guitars on Ruins and languor on With the Other Handthis one inspired by the work of the late Leonard Cohen, “a pop song that whispers about the mysterious journey that someone takes across a street, a building and a stage,” reads the press release, which perfectly sums up the atmosphere of the album. The more concise songs (except the atmospheric Sea White in conclusion) are once again inhabited by the voice, fine and full of candor, of Hval, who sings as if she were trying to comfort us.
