“The Imperial”, Haydn, Giovanni Antonini | The duty

The complete collection of Haydn’s 107 symphonies by Antonini, which aims to be completed in 2032, has adopted a cruising speed of impressive consistency of quality. The volume to acquire as a priority to have the perfect summary of the interpretative statement is 10e “The hours of the day”, bringing together the symphonies Morning noon and evening (notbone 5 has 7). Giovanni Antonini directs Il Giardino Armonico there. In fact, the complete set (for those who know how to search on the Internet, a box set bringing together the first ten volumes is available for a pittance) is shared equally between its two orchestras. In this 14e volume engraved in 2021, Antonini offers both Final known to the Symphony no 53, The iimperial. The balance is admirable: it’s lively and biting, but without violence. The timpani do not “pierce” the musical progress. Furthermore, Antonini now has a keen sense for tracking Haydn’s lively mind and highlights the contrasts and particular traits, as he illustrates in a very intelligent text.
