Nanosatellites, which weigh less than 10 kg, have as much capacity as large satellites. At the start of the week, Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, urged the French space community to get into battle order to create a mini launcher and a mini rocket.
He is named Angels, and vsis the first French nanosatellite launched into space, in 2017. It allows to transmit the positions of the beacons argos or even weather data. Compared to a classic satellite, it is surprising for its measurements: it is no bigger than a shoebox, and weighs only a few pounds.
It is forward-looking technology. “Tomorrow, satellites will be used for science, we have extremely important societal issues: greenhouse gases, water resource management, for example. Thanks to nanosatellites, we will be able to have global and daily coverage of all these events.”, Says Laurent Javaneau, responsible nanosatellites – Hemeria. Global coverage will also be possible, thanks to fleets of nanosatellites.
