Olivier Véran, who is also in charge of “Democratic Renewal”, did not choose Beaucaire at random: the party of Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen is holding its back-to-school conference there on Saturday.

The reception in Beaucaire was frosty from the mayor, Julien Sanchez: he criticized Olivier Véran for not having been involved in the organization of the day. And here are the minister and the mayor crisscrossing the city, surrounded by four RN deputies from the department. The latter will not hesitate to speak during the debate sequence with the residents. “We are talking about democratic renewal, while 80% of French people were opposed to pension reformrecalls MP Pierre Meurin. You seem not to have much to do with public opinion since the start of your mandate.” he adds to the minister.

After sales service

Facing him, Olivier Véran does not shy away: the minister tries to list the initiatives already launched, such as the “great debate” or the citizens’ conventions. “I also hear the desire of the French to feel useful through mechanisms of direct democracy, such as referendums, argues Olivier Véran. I think we need to hear it and support it.”

The government spokesperson does not forget to provide after-sales service on government measures, such as youth aid, the increase in small pensions or the reduction in unemployment: “I’m taking this opportunity to show the French that the State is there for them, and that it is concretely making things happen, to ensure that they are happier. Because sometimes, they don’t realize it account.”

And this is how he hopes to make them want to vote again. In Beaucaire, almost one in two voters abstained in the last elections.
