Health: public nursing homes on the verge of financial asphyxiation – (FRANCE 2)
Faced with rising food prices and the explosion in gas bills, several public nursing homes are suffering financially and are threatened by major pooling projects.
The 16 residents of a public nursing home in Puy-de-Dôme fear having to move and separate from the others. Out of 140,000 euros borrowed in 2014, the retirement home has only repaid 20,000 euros in recent years. Difficulties identified by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), which wishes to save money by bringing together small local establishments.
The trend would however be towards proximity
In Bordeaux (Gironde), a nursing home must also cope with rising salaries, rising food prices and the explosion in gas bills. Inflation far exceeds the 3% increase in budgets allocated by the department. Public establishments are threatened by large pooling projects, while the trend would be towards proximity. The sector is demanding a financing plan of more than 10 billion euros to maintain itself.
