A completely crazy arrival. Promised to sprinters, the 16th stage of the Vuelta had an unexpected outcome on Tuesday 6 September. While Primoz Roglic had attacked in the last bump, and distanced Remco Evenepoel, victim of a puncture 2 km from the finish, the Slovenian fell heavily a few meters from the line, in full sprint. He crossed the line with difficulty, after taking a long time to get up, the right side of his body completely grated.

In this case, benefiting from the reclassification rule (since he fell in the last three kilometers), Roglic took eight seconds from Evenepoel, reclassified him with another group, but surely lost a lot more.

Finally, it was Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) who won, he who had already raised his arms at Montilla during the 13th stage. He beat Pascal Ackermann (UAE Emirates), Danny Van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Fred Wright (Bahrain-Victorious) in the small group of sprinters who had escaped to play for the win.
