In Paris, more and more students are receiving food aid and hygiene packages distributed free of charge by volunteers from an association.

In the heart of Paris, very close to the National Assembly, several hundred students waited in a long queue, Wednesday, March 29. They hoped to receive food aid and hygiene packages distributed free of charge by volunteers from an association. If this initiative did not exist, many would not succeed, especially with the inflation of recent months.

“Half the month, we are already exposed”

Among the students, some benefit from a scholarship, others work alongside their studies. But, today, that is not enough to live properly in a city like Paris. “With my part-time job, I have a little less than 700 euros. Halfway through the month, we are already overdrawn, it’s complicated”, says Jonathan, 23, a psychology student. In three hours, 600 baskets were distributed by the volunteers. The number of beneficiaries of this food aid is growing. Today, one out of two students would not have enough to eat.
