Slow business

Most businesses will be closed on Monday, September 5 for Labor Day, with the exception of small grocery stores, such as greengrocers and butchers.

Convenience stores, pharmacies and gas stations are also on the list of establishments that will remain accessible despite this holiday, as are the Express branches of the SAQ. SQDC branches will be closed.

Restaurants, bars and public markets will also remain open, while grocery stores and big box food markets will be closed.

Public services closed

Banks, cash registers, post offices and offices of the City of Montreal will be essentially closed on Monday. This is also the case for government services, including passport offices and SAAQ service centers, among others.

The ecocentres will also be put on hold, while the various collections will be maintained according to the usual schedules in most of the boroughs of Montreal, with the exception of the collection of green waste in the borough of Montreal-North, postponed to Tuesday. September 6.

Accessible leisure activities

Several Montreal museums will open their doors on this day of rest, as will the Space for Life facilities, namely the Biodôme, the Botanical Garden, the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium and the Biosphere. Montreal libraries and Maisons de la culture will be closed.

The many sports and cultural facilities will have a varied schedule depending on the different boroughs. The public is invited to consult the Loisirs Montréal online service to find out about the sports and leisure program offered and to reserve sports spaces.

Reduced timetable public transport

The public transport service will be maintained on Monday in the various large cities of the province, but according to schedules adapted to this holiday. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will continue to offer its bus and metro service, but its schedules will change.

The buses of the Société de transport de Laval (STL) will run according to their Sunday schedule, as will those of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC), in Quebec City, and the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO), in Gatineau. The Société de transport de Sherbrooke (STS) will run according to its Saturday schedule for Labor Day.
