How to cover Trump?
Seven months after the American elections, we are seeking to better understand the forces involved and the political-media context among our neighbors to the South. Among the authors worth reading is Brian Stelter, one of the best media columnists in the United States, author of Network of Lies: The Epic Saga of Fox News, Donald Trump, and the Battle for American Democracy, published last fall. Stelter recently gave an interview to the television magazine In the media (Télé-Québec), hosted by Marie-Louise Arsenault (a great move from the show). Stelter answers, among other things, the question that many journalists ask themselves: how to cover Trump this time?

How is it not going?
Delphine Horvilleur is a star in France. A rare female rabbi, she has published several books (including the very beautiful Living with our dead) and often intervenes in public. A fan of dialogue and empathy, she always tries to build bridges. His new book was written urgently, the day after the October 7 attacks in Israel. Conversations real or imagined by the author to try to understand and not fall into hatred. This book, already very popular in France, should appear here around April 22. A must read.

Switch to SILQ
In April, a group of Quebec writers will travel to the City of Lights to participate in the Paris Book Festival, where Quebec is the guest of honor, while another group will meet in the Old Capital for the Salon international book of Quebec. Yes, novelists will be there in large numbers, including the Prix Médicis Kevin Lambert, but there will also be many authors of essays and texts with a biographical flavor such as Jean-François Lépine, Catherine Dorion or even the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, who is publishing volume 2 of her autobiographical comic strip these days, Simone Simoneau: like vixens.

Three hours with Mouawad
If you have seen the excellent film Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet, you may have recognized Wajdi Mouawad in the role of the psychiatrist. The playwright, who is now director of the Théâtre national de la Colline in Paris (his mandate was renewed on March 8), is the author of the month’s excellent podcast series Bookmakers, on Arte. During three episodes, we return to the roots of the creation of this ex-Montrealer who does not fear controversy, a demanding author who seems to have found his audience in France… and almost everywhere on the planet where his plays are staged.
