(Toronto) Penny Oleksiak won the women’s 100-meter freestyle event Friday at the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials.
Oleksiak covered the distance in 53.66 seconds, just above the Olympic time limit of 53.61. She just beat Quebecer Mary-Sophie Harvey, who stopped the clock in 53.71.
Oleksiak, the holder of seven Olympic medals, won her only gold medal of the Rio Games in this event, setting an Olympic record at the time.
The 23-year-old athlete holds the Canadian record of 52.59 which she set at the Tokyo Games in 2021. She then finished fourth.
Summer McIntosh and Maggie Mac Neil withdrew from this event.
