With his Neuralink brain implant, Elon Musk allows paraplegics to control a smartphone or computer by thought.

Elon Musk announced that his company Neuralink had placed its first brain implant in a human. Other companies have already done so, but Neuralink plans to offer implants to everyone, not just paraplegics.“Neuralink designed this brain implant, the size of a coin. It is made up of a hundred gold wires which deploy 3000 electrodes in the brain”indicates Nicolas Chateauneuf, present on the 20 Heures set, Tuesday January 30.

The project to restore sight to the blind

The brain signals are then interpreted by the implant which emits waves, making it possible to remotely control a smartphone, a computer or a robotic arm. “Concretely, paralyzed people could manipulate a keyboard only by thought”, explains the journalist. A monkey, equipped with a Neuralink implant, played a video game only by thinking. Elon Musk wishes “Implant other sensors along the spine to restore sight to the blind and the use of their limbs to quadriplegics”concludes Nicolas Chateauneuf.
