Didier Bonnet raises cows in Loire-Atlantique. He also cultivates 56 hectares of cereals to feed them. Except that with the lack of raincorn does not grow. So he has no corn and almost no grass. The cows that should graze only in the pasture are already partly fed with the rations originally planned for the winter. Result : the farmer may have to buy back fodder by the end of the year. “Since drought is everywhere in France, fodder will go up at huge prices“, says Didier Bonnet, a farmer in Frossay (Loire Atlantique).
Barely 1 mm of rain in a month and a summer that promises to be particularly dry. The risk of drought is considered very likely by the government in 22 departments. A probable risk in 46 other departments and possible in the others. Among the most fragile areas: part of western France and the south-east.
