Montreal | Attempted armed attack in an adult education center

A student from an adult education center in the Saint-Henri district of Montreal was arrested Wednesday after threatening another student with a knife during a fight.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) intervened at the Saint-Paul Center, a general adult training establishment located on Notre-Dame Street West, in connection with the event.

Around 10:30 a.m., a call was made to 911 concerning a fight between two young men, said agent Caroline Chèvrefils, SPVM media relations. According to initial information, an 18-year-old student attempted to attack a 17-year-old teenager with a knife, without success.

The argument was over when the police arrived on the scene. “The suspect had already been subdued by a member of management and the victim was away from the suspect,” said the police force.

The victim knew the suspect. The latter has no criminal record and should appear in court on Thursday.

“Fortunately, no one was injured thanks to the rapid intervention of staff and then the SPVM, who arrested the attacker,” confirmed the Montreal school service center (CSSDM).

Classes continued as usual despite the attack. However, speakers were available if necessary.

“Several measures” are in place at the Saint-Paul Center to guarantee the safety of students and teachers, affirms the CSSDM by email. “Among others, two social work technicians work full time in this establishment to ensure continued vigilance and take concrete actions in terms of prevention. »
