Mathilde Panot, the boss of the rebellious deputies, announced on Tuesday April 23 that she had been summoned by the police for “apology of terrorism”. This is the very first time in the Fifth Republic that the president of an opposition group has been summoned for such a serious reason.

The boss of the rebellious deputies denounced a scandal: “We will not be silent. No summons, no intimidation of any kind will prevent us from protesting the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people”. This summons comes a few days after that of Rima Hassan, 7th on the La France insoumise (LFI) list in the European elections.
A controversial press release dating from October 7
This summons is part of an investigation which was opened following a press release which was published by the parliamentary group on October 7, the day of the attack carried out by Hamas on Israel which more than 1,200 dead. This text sparked controversy because it paralleled the attack by the Islamist movement Hamas and “the intensification of the Israeli occupation policy” in the Palestinian territories. For LFI, this summons serves to exploit justice.
