The France Télévisions teams followed Fabien Collin and his cow Manureva in the aisles of the Salon de l’agriculture. Its milk is used to make a specialty of the Jura, the Comté.
Just arrived at the Agricultural Show, Fabien Collin, a cow breeder in the Doubs, takes over the management of the milking with Manureva, a six-year-old Montbéliarde. “You have to empty his pie every 12 hours, like at home”, he explains. The milk from this cow, originally from the Jura, is intended for the production of Comté cheese. Even at the show, the breeder meticulously monitors the diet of his protege. Out of 170 candidates, only 14 Montbéliardes, including Manureva, were selected.
A bonus, for Fabien Collin. “It’s a source of pride to be here to represent the breed, to represent our department. And then, it’s still important to be there to promote our profession”, explains the farmer. When he left for the capital, the entire region was behind them: 2,000 people gathered near Besançon to see the 12 breeders and their animals get into the truck. After eight hours on the road, Manureva joined the 4,000 of the most beautiful French animals exhibited at the Agricultural Show.
