the XV of Clover had fun! Relive Ireland’s Nine Trials

Ireland received Italy, Sunday February 27, at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, to get their heads back after the setback received at the Stade de France, against the Blues, on February 12 (30-24 ). It’s done. The Italians, quickly outnumbered, failed to compete against the enterprising and ruthless Irish, authors of nine tries (57-6).

5th minute: Joey Carbery opens the scoring for Ireland

After a series of rucks, the Irish found the gap thanks to a very good pass after contact from Caelan Dorris. It’s then a two-on-one for Sheehan and Carbery, and the number 10 comes to flatten. He transforms his own try and it’s already 7-0 after four minutes of play!

21st minute: Gibson Park doubles the lead for Ireland

After a good job on the outside of James Lowe and a fuss on Padovani, number 11 finds Gibson Park inside which doubles the bet for the XV of Clover. Joey carbery converts facing the post and it’s 14-3 for Ireland!

At 13 against 15, the Italians retreated and Ireland found the solution on the outside thanks to James Lowe who then served Gibson Park.  Number 9 scores the second try, transformed by Carbery, it's 14-3!

30th minute: Lowry shines for his first cape

After a simulated scrum five meters to the right, the Irish attacked on the line and it was Michael Lowry who found the solution alone on the left of the posts. The young Northern Irish push it a little deeper Squadra Azzurra for his first cape in the Clover jersey. Joey carbery misses his transformation and it’s 19-3 at the Aviva Stadium.

38th minute: Italy cracks again, Ireland takes the bonus before the break!

Chains of play and sharp runs allow Ireland to crack Italy before half-time for the fourth time in this first act. It’s Captain Peter O’Mahony which comes to flatten corner for the XV of Clover. Second foot failure for carbery who misses her transformation. 24-3 for Ireland !

The bonus try, the fourth of the game for Ireland by O'Mahony.  The XV of Clover continues to push and sinks Italy a little more thanks to its captain who signs his 3rd international try in a corner.  Carbery still misses the transformation, 24-3 in Dublin!

53rd minute: Gibson Park serves Lowe for Ireland’s fifth try

After a particularly boring return from the locker room, the Italians, disorganized, cracked once again on a fault quickly played by Gibson Park. Number 9 attacks the line and then serves Lowe with a superb jump pass. The Gibson Park-Lowe pair strikes again. Carbery misses a third transformation and gives way to Sexton. 29-6 for the XV of Clover!

Disorganized, the Italians crack a fifth time, and this time it's Gibson Park who returns the favor to Lowe with a nice skipped pass.  Ireland leads 29-6 after Carbery's failed conversion!

58th minute: sixth Irish try and double for Lowry on a service from Sexton!

Again and again, Ireland attacks the Italian defense from all sides. Still not satisfied, the XV of Clover comes to register his sixth try of the match. Jonathan Sexton serves Michael Lowry who signs a double for his first cap. The pass seemed forward but the referee awarded after using the video. Sexton transforms, 36-6 in a match that never ends for the Squadra Azzurra!

Ireland does not relax and continues its offensive recital.  Served by Sexton, Lowry scored twice for his first cap, while the pass from number 22 seemed forward.  Johnny Sexton converts and it's 36-6!

71st minute: on a blocked kick, Baird flattens a seventh time in this meeting

In their 22 meters, the Italians are under pressure, locked up and without a solution. While they want to clear the foot, Baird arises and against this ball and will only register the seventh Irish try of the game. Sexton then transforms and the XV of Clover leads 43-6!

The Italians, in their 22 meters, want to clear on foot but Baird counters this ball and comes to flatten for the 7th Irish try.  The nightmare of the Squadra Azzurra continues, Sexton transforms, 43-6 for the XV of Clover!

77th minute: Altruistic Lowry offers his double to James Lowe!

And 8! As a mock scrum is played in the right corner, the Irish are 15-12 after a yellow card against the Squadra Azzurra. Logically, there is a numerical superiority over the exterior and it’s Lowryalready author of a double which serves Lowe who offers himself a double in turn. Sexton continues his recital at the foot, and it’s 50-6 at the Aviva Stadium !

At 5 against 2 on the outside, the Irish score in a corner by Lowe served by Lowry.  Number 11 also signs a double, 961 career points for Sexton who transforms and Ireland reaches 50 points!

80+3rd minute: Treadwell crucifies the Squadra Azzurra with the ninth and final Irish try!

Hungry, unleashed, and without pity, Ireland comes, in stoppage time, to crucify Italy with a ninth try signed Kieran Treadwell. Sexton transforms again and Ireland wins at the Aviva Stadium 57-6 face to a brave but far too weak Italian team, exceeded in all areas of the game, qualitatively as well as numerically!

Hungry, Ireland ends this meeting on a 9th try.  It's Treadwell who comes to flatten for the XV of Clover, Sexton transforms, so it's 57-6, final score for the Irish who come to take second place in the standings in the Tournament!
