Make way for readers | What you want to throw away in 2023

The COVID-19 virus and its variants have topped the to-do list for the past two years. War in Ukraine, third link in Quebec, cryptocurrency, TSO among nurses… it’s much more varied this time around. Here’s a look at what you want to throw away in 2023.

Throw the Russian leader

I would throw Vladimir Putin and his generals in the dump. May peace in Ukraine be on the horizon and the country be able to rebuild itself. So many innocent lives, both Ukrainian and Russian, lost. May the magnificent Ukrainian sunflowers unfurl under blue skies and bright sunshine.

Martine Boulet-Pelletier, Marston

energy-guzzling vehicles

I would throw away all the damn SUVs and, above all, the damn ones pickupsowned by people who don’t need it!

Luc Laporte, Joliette

Disinformation followers

Donald Trump, Jair Bolsonaro, Éric Duhaime and all those who take advantage of misinformation on social networks to be popular.

Jules Fish

Over-packaging and senseless containers

Let’s start with us. Call on both levels of government, municipal and provincial, to pass regulations prohibiting non-compostable or non-recyclable packaging. I am discouraged to see that in 2022, we are putting containers and plastics in the trash that are going to landfill. Tons of toys and toys go there too. Let’s take advantage of the talent of Quebecers to innovate and create designs that are more like us. Let’s create logos, beautiful graphics, colors in our pantries and in our homes… without polluting more. Let’s throw away the old way of over-packaging and mindless containers. Let’s be a reference one day!

Catherine Begin

Cryptocurrencies

We need to get rid of cryptocurrencies. Energy-consuming, therefore polluting, useless, superficial and fraudulent. A virtual tax haven.

Christian L’Ecuyer

Do not throw away, recycle, repair…

I want to throw away less: give a second life to clothes and shoes that no longer fit. People in need, here or elsewhere, will be able to benefit from it. Avoid more food waste; cook leftovers, stir-fry with wilted vegetables, compote with soft fruit, breadcrumbs or bread pudding with stale bread. Repair what can be repaired to extend the useful life of certain objects. Finally, give or sell what no longer serves. It could make someone happy.

Susan Parmenter

The petty politics

I would like to see the petty politics and pettiness thrown out and replaced with cross-partisan work. So all elected officials without exception could all work together for the good of the people of Quebec!

Dany Gauthier, Saint-Felicien

Compulsory overtime

To be discarded in 2023: compulsory overtime in hospitals and other health establishments; benzodiazepine prescriptions in children; violence and lack of good manners; negative comments or insults on social media.

Sylvie Lequin

The whining!

What I would like to throw away, bury deep in a gaping hole and cover it forever: the crying! We only read, we hear, we see only that: people who complain, who “denounce”, who are experts in everything, but ultimately in nothing. And during this time, nothing is ever settled.

Miriam Fontaine

The third link in Quebec

I would throw away the plans for the third link and quickly plan some for saving the current bridges by adding dedicated transit lanes to them. With a budget of 10 billion, we could afford high quality work for these bridges and at the same time a light rail passing over these bridges. There would be money left over for social housing…

Pierre Martel, Quebec

negative thoughts

Let’s discard all forms of negative thoughts and instead take constructive ideas and thoughts!

Serge Ste-Marie

My apprehensions

Throw away my apprehensions about leaving my professional life…read: retiring. Thank you for allowing me to realize this.

Francine LeBlanc

virtual trash

Throw in my virtual trash can all those old letters that sleep in servers that consume energy for absolutely nothing. If we want fewer dams, it takes fewer energy demands. Come on! old documents, multiple photos and old emails cluttering the clouds for absolutely nothing.

Nancy Gelinas

The inflatable neighbors

Throw away all the bouncy neighbors in this world, those kind of people who are always trying to show off by putting others down. Congratulations to low profile.

Guy Sirois

The ugliness of the world

I would like to throw away all the ugliness in the world. The one that scares, that kills, that traumatizes, that anguishes, that rots the future. Throw it away, bury it deep, may it never come out! Here, no recycling, please!
