Every day, starting at 5 p.m., the streets of London have a habit of turning into a giant bar. This time, the teams of JT of 20 Hours, went to discover bars that seem much more discreet.
Despite looking like a hairdressing salon, you don’t necessarily come to this London business to dress up, you come instead for a glass of champagne. Indeed, in the basement, a secret bar is revealed. The place is very well hidden and invisible from the street. It is independent of the hairdressing salon which covers it. No advertising indicates its existence, customers come most often through word of mouth.
These places are called the “Speakeasy”, inspired by the underground bars of prohibition during the 1920s to United States where alcohol was banned. “In a pub, it’s different, people are drunk and it’s noisy. Here, it’s much quieter”, explains a regular. In London, a hundred secret bars are hidden across the city.
