What a surprise this morning to see from the pen of Marco Fortier comments on brainwashing, numbered notes and the portfolio. A manager of a private school would have made discoveries after observing practices in Helsinki, New Hampshire and a doctorate: it would therefore be necessary to modify the evaluation process and put it at the service of the student by using a portfolio and by evaluating in a way other than by grades.
These Quebec circles would have every interest in looking in their own backyard and re-reading what was promised by the educational renewal launched in 1997-1998, a renewal that was condemned as soon as it was put in place. And now, barely twenty years later, we discover and believe we are reinventing the wheel.
How not to be surprised by this great detour to return to what we wanted to make students experience intensely just 20 years ago? It’s sad. I invite these people to reread the writings of Philippe Perrenoud.
