(Quebec) Alcohol could be involved in two separate accidents that occurred half an hour apart in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, in the Lanaudière region, and which left three seriously injured.

Emergency services were first called to the scene of a head-on collision that occurred around 12:15 a.m. Sunday on Route 343.
“Initial reports indicate that a 43-year-old driver driving a Caravan collided with an SUV head-to-head. The 43-year-old man from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez would have suffered serious injuries, but which would not put his life in danger, ”said agent Nicolas Scholtus, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The 45-year-old driver of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) also suffered serious injuries, but was in stable condition in hospital. His passenger was not injured.
In addition, the driver of the Dodge Caravan vehicle could now face justice. Blood samples were taken from the 43-year-old suspect to analyze his level of intoxication.
Route 343 was closed until around 7 a.m. this morning so that accident scene reconstruction experts from the Sûreté du Québec could analyze it. SQ investigators were also dispatched to the scene.
“The suspect could face charges of impaired ability by alcohol causing bodily harm,” said Constable Scholtus.
A second accident in 30 minutes
Then, around 12:45 a.m., emergency services were also called to the scene of another collision that occurred nearby, this time on Rang Kildare, which intersects with Route 343.
At this location, they assisted a 16-year-old boy whose scooter had just been hit by a sedan car.
“According to initial information, a 24-year-old driver driving a sedan collided with a moped as the latter entered the road from a private entrance,” explained the spokesperson for the SQ.
The teenager was transported to the Hôpital-du-Sacré-Coeur-de-Montréal to treat serious injuries, but there is no fear for his life. As for the young driver of the sedan, the latter is not at the end of his troubles.
“The 24-year-old suspect was taken to the police station to undergo an alcohol test. Rang Kildare was closed until 7 a.m. this morning so that reconstructionists and Sûreté du Québec investigators can establish the causes and circumstances surrounding the collision,” said Agent Scholtus.
The young man could also face a charge of driving while impaired by alcohol causing bodily harm.
