On August 31, 1997, Lady Diana, one of the most popular personalities of the royal family (of which she is no longer a part since her divorce in 1992), is died suddenly in a car accident, under the Alma bridge in Paris. A tragic news that will go around the planet, and will mark the spirits forever. For this sad 25th anniversary, it is also an opportunity to recall old memories of the life of the princess of hearts. As well as these almost secret stories, buried for many years. Among which, that of Prince Charles’ romance with Diana’s sister, Sarah Spencer.
It’s in a season 4 episode of The Crown that this love story that sank into oblivion has resurfaced, reminds us Madame Figaro. In 1977, when Prince Charles was not yet in a relationship with Diana, he had a brief romance with his sister, Sarah Spencer. The eldest of the family would have caused the end of this love affair. Indeed, after a ski holiday with the Prince of Wales, Diana’s sister would have confided to journalists from the TimeJames Whittaker and Nigel Nelson, that she was not in love with Charles. And that she had no intention of marrying Her Majesty’s son, was he “garbage collector or king of England“.
Sarah Spencer, the “Cupid” of her little sister Diana
Not surprisingly, this paper in the Time was not taken very well by Prince Charles, and would have caused his break-up with Sarah Spencer. Nevertheless, she will have managed to catch up since she had the time to present to his ex, his little sister Diana, then 16 years old. Our colleagues report that in the episode of The Crown, which deals with this romance, while Diana appears behind her sister, the latter forbids her to speak to the Prince of Wales. The reality is therefore quite different since it would therefore be her who would be at the origin of the meeting between Charles and his future wife.
It was during a visit by the Duke of Cornwall to the Spencer home in Althorp that Sarah reportedly introduced her ex to her little sister, “in a plowing fielde”. “I introduced them to each otherwould have entrusted the eldest of Diana, during the engagement of the parents of William and Harry, in 1981. I am cupid.” Sarah Spencer remained close to the royal family and was even present at the inauguration of the statue of Lady Di on July 1, 2021, in the presence of the sons of the princess of hearts.
