The kick-off for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid was given this Saturday, May 28, 36 minutes late. After 9 p.m., the time at which the kick-off was scheduled, thousands of Liverpool supporters were still stuck behind the gates of the Stade de France (Saint-Denis). As several videos posted on social networks show, some supporters entered the stadium by climbing the gates surrounding the forecourt of the enclosure then to run in the direction of the bleachers.
Tear gas was fired by the security forces to prevent some young people from climbing the barriers. Several Liverpool supporters, blocked in front of the doors, were at the same time sprayed according to a video of a journalist from ESPN.
A little later in the evening,scuffles were observed in the fan zone located Cours de Vincennes, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, where 30,000 English supporters were welcomed. “A bar manager near the fan zone requested the intervention of the police for difficulties with supporters” pushing to close the establishment.
