Just for Laughs protects itself from its creditors | Artists will continue their tour

Faced with the decision of Just for Laughs to cancel the Summer Festival and the presentation of seven shows for financial reasons, artists and their entourage have decided to take matters into their own hands: they will produce the already planned shows themselves and those future.


To prevent the public from requesting reimbursements for shows that will take place, certain comedians wanted to quickly announce on social networks the continuation of their tour.

This is the case of Jean-Sébastien Girard who announced on X: “The last shows of my tour A boy like no other are NOT canceled! My extraordinary agency will produce the final performances. My thoughts to everyone who loses their job. Bad times for our profession! »

Same story with comedian Louis T. who must present a run-in of his new show Alpha Male, from Saturday in Bromont. The latter published this on Facebook: “My tour is maintained, both for the shows already announced and others that will be added. People who have already purchased tickets need not worry. We are resuming tour production. My thoughts also and above all go to the employees who lost their jobs this morning. »

Eve Côté, whose show Eve side is produced by Juste pour Rire also published a message, this time on Instagram: “Don’t panic on board, it’s not Eve Côté who is going bankrupt, it’s Juste pour Rire. My show is going well.” She adds that her team is working on the situation and that her fans will receive “good news” in 48 hours. “Do not start the refund process right away. Take it for granted, I will continue to come and visit you in your neck of the woods,” concludes the artist.

Also affected by the cancellations announced by Just for Laughs, the management team of Neev and Mélanie Couture sent this message to The Press : “François Simard and Gisèle Barry of Simone & Associés confirm that Neev and Mélanie’s tours will take place as planned. Like everyone else, we learned the news this morning and we immediately got to work to resume production of the two shows. »

Only two other shows were canceled following the announcement of the Just for Laughs Group: that of Messmer planned as part of the festival and the musical Waitress which starred Marie-Ève ​​Janvier, in particular.

Martin Béliveau, agent of Jean-Sébastien Girard and Julie Ringuette (who was to play one of the main roles in Waitress), indicated to The Press : “We heard the news this morning like everyone else. We felt that something was happening, since the publication of the article Duty on the restructuring of Just for Laughs, but not to this extent! Hoping that the artists’ contracts will be respected…”

Finally, the communications team behind the musical comedy directed by Joël Legendre, the Roy-Turner Agency, transmitted to The Press this short message: “we will have news in a few days about the rest of Waitress. »
