Iconic Marseille rapper JuL announced it on social media on Friday, September 6: four years after the resounding success of his album 13 Organizedwhere the figures of Marseille rap jostled for position, the sequel will be released on October 4. This time, he is turning up the volume again by promising to bring together no fewer than one hundred and fifty 100% Marseille artists in a quadruple CD.
A first single, Organized gang 2, had gone scouting on August 15th, in the heart of summer, with SCH, Kofs, JuL, Alonzo, Naps, Soso Maness, Elams, Solda and Houari. In the video, we see the happy group, dressed in a new blue and white jersey (the colors of OM), strolling through the streets of Marseille aboard a bus, but also the master builder JUL propelling himself into the cosmos. This first title did not have the dazzling success that its predecessor had known – but it still had 2.8 million listens in one week and 9.2 million views three weeks later.
On Saturday, September 7, a second single was unveiled. Called Under the sun, It brings together a whole bunch of artists again: JuL, Soprano, Alonzo, Le Rat Luciano, Sat, L’Algérino, Fahar, Menzo, Don Choa, As and Vincenzo.
In this 9-minute long track, the rappers each take turns talking about their city and its changes, with a hint of nostalgia. Thus, Sat opens the show with these rhymes: “My city is beautiful but life is worse than before (…) If only I knew how to go back in time/ I think I will never see my old Marseille again/ I have mourned, it is dead/ It has become Baltimore [référence à la série américaine The Wire] / I no longer recognize my city center and my northern neighborhoods”. As the song progresses, others assure “Everything has changed, now it’s a mess“, or else “We don’t recognize the neighborhood anymore / Now it’s bulletproof in summer“.
