Screenwriter and playwright Chantal Cadieux shared the life of Jean-Marc Vallée. She is the mother of her two sons Alex and Émile. She describes the director as an enthusiast totally invested in his artistic projects.

“I found out last night. I was not with Jean-Marc when the tragedy happened, neither were our children. We learned about it by visiting the police, ”explains the ex-wife of the prolific director.
According to sources from TVA Nouvelles, the filmmaker born in Montreal in March 1963 would have succumbed to a cardiopulmonary arrest. It was friends who found him lifeless in a residence in Berthier-sur-Mer.
Chantal Cadieux confirms that the father of her two children would have died of a natural cause, nothing suggests that there could have been something criminal.
“The police think it’s a natural death. They are going to look a little more, because Jean-Marc was a well-known personality and he was young, ”she adds.
Ms. Cadieux specifies that her ex-spouse was in good shape. “He was really healthy. He took care of himself, trained, ate well. He had no known health problems, ”she explains.
Jean-Marc Vallée led his career with a bang in France and the United States, he accumulated success and recognition: Café de Flore, Dallas Buyers Club, Big Little Lies, … However, he remained deeply attached to Quebec where he lived.
“He was here for a while. He had written a screenplay here that he had to shoot. He had plans on the table. He was in a very good professional period, ”explains Chantal Cadieux.
Gifted, Jean-Marc Vallée wrote his scripts, directed them, edited them. “He was passionate. He was working a lot. He plunged body and soul into his projects. He gave himself fully. And he was not afraid to say who were the people who had collaborated with him. He had a Quebec team, he had always worked with people from here. His roots were very important to him, ”adds Mme Cadieux.
