(Rome) Italian carabinieri announced Tuesday that they had seized a remote-controlled submarine intended to transport drugs, as part of the dismantling of an international network of traffickers with arrests in Italy and Albania.
Investigators made this unusual discovery during their investigations targeting car wash station managers based in Turin (north), and who, under this cover, also cultivated marijuana plantations.
“The traffickers had, among other things, designed and tested a small remote-controlled submarine, probably intended for transporting drugs,” the carabinieri said in a press release.
They attached a video taken during surveillance in which we can see the submarine, a few meters long, moving on the surface of a body of water.
The network, led by two brothers of Albanian origin, carried out its activities between Ecuador, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy, according to the same source.
The carabinieri indicate that they seized during the investigation a total of 204 kilos of cocaine and hashish.
