Formerly of Amazon, passed through start-up Tableau, Adam Selipsky returned to the Seattle (Washington State) group in March 2021, to take control of AWS, which has become a cloud juggernaut.

He then succeeded Andy Jassy, ​​who himself would take over from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as CEO.

In a message posted on Amazon’s website, Andy Jassy explained that when he asked Adam Selipsky about a possible return to AWS, “we agreed that if he accepted, it would be for a few years.” (only) and that one of its priorities would be to help prepare a new generation of leaders.”

Created in 2006, AWS has experienced tremendous growth in recent years. Its annual turnover increased from $12 billion in 2016 to $91 billion last year.

According to Andy Jassy, ​​this subsidiary even reached, in the first quarter of 2024, a pace which would allow it to cross the threshold of 100 billion dollars over the year, which would offer it a place, if it were independent, among the 100 most large global companies.

“Given the stage this business has reached and its management team, now is the right time to make this transition,” commented Adam Selipsky, in a message posted on the Amazon website.
