La Nupes, which brings together the left-wing parties behind Jean-Luc Mélenchon, hopes to win in the legislative elections. But the union has to deal with dissidents, as in the 1ʳᵉ district of Lot.
Bernard Cazeneuve, former Prime Minister, is campaigning for the legislative elections. He supports the socialists who have dissented against the Nupes, the left-wing coalition led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Among these dissidents, Rémi Branco, Divers Gauche candidate in the 1st constituency of Lot. Her Nupes rival, Elsa Bougeard, cannot count on the support of a headliner. In a popular district of Cahors, she plays the gathering card. “We regret [l]to apply [de Rémi Branco]because it creates division and it favors the right-wing candidate”she believes.
The candidate on the right is Aurélien Pradié. In 2017, he conquered the 1ʳᵉ constituency of the Lot, historically on the left. He pretends not to be interested in the division of the left. “It’s their problem more than mine”, he laughs. Another advantage for Rémi Branco, the presidential majority has not invested any candidate against him. The National Rally, through Cendrine Couturier, considers itself the only opponent to Emmanuel Macron. Finally, François Tesson, the alternate candidate Reconquête!, hopes that the left will find common ground.
