Jean-François Corty, vice-president of Médecins du Monde, was the guest of 19/20 info, Saturday November 18. He notably returned to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Saturday November 18, hospital Al-Shifa experienced a new raid by the Israeli army. Patients had to be moved. Present on the 19/20 info set, Jean-François Corty, vice-president of Médecins du Monde, deplores: “Every day, it’s a little more horror. We know that there are nearly 1.5 million displaced people, for a population of 2.2 million people. It’s monstrous, it’s exceptional. We have around 11,000 deaths, announced by the Hamas. These figures are probably underestimated.”

“A ceasefire”

He specifies that the United Nations mentions “the term of famine”. “The vital prognosis of millions of people is at risk: civilians, caregivers, humanitarian workers, even hostages”, deplores Jean-François Corty. Asked about the work of the Médecins du Monde teams on site, the vice-president regrets: “They hardly work anymore. We have a doctor who died last week with his whole family, under the bombs. (…) We still have a doctor who works in a hospital in the center of Gaza. Most of the other people are distributed throughout the territory. They are looking for food and water.”

Concerning the evacuation of patients from the hospital Al ShifaJean-François Corty noted : “Most of the patients, who are in unstable clinical status (…), cannot be transported. Logistics, ambulances, sometimes trains, SAMU teams are needed.” He is pointing out that “the other hospitals are not working either“. The vice-president of the NGO requests a “ceasefire”especially for “bring in equipment”.
