“I take great care of my child”, assures on France Bleu Armorique a mother suspected of mistreating her 14-year-old teenager in Rennes. In July 2022, she and her son presented themselves to the pediatric emergency room of the city’s southern hospital, after the teenager fell ill. At that time, he weighed only 27 kilograms, half the average weight of a young person his age.

“Obviously I fed enough every day of my child’s life who never slept on an empty stomach,” defends the mother of the teenager, now placed under judicial supervision. “We just live simply and happily, because we have the right to our life, like everyone else”continues the 48-year-old woman.

The 40-year-old describes herself as an exemplary mother

First placed in police custody in July 2022, she is now called to appear before the Rennes criminal court on October 5, 2023, after ten months of investigation. His son is on child welfare. “I want to find my son”she says.

In particular, she claims to have provided him with school at home, without having registered him in the national lists of distance education. “We spent whole days at the library, playing in the parks”she tells our colleagues from France Bleu Armorique. “I am afraid for him since his placement, on his professional, cultural life and then in relation to me because he is asking to come back home.”

She will be judged for evasion by a parent of his legal obligations compromising the health, safety, morality or education of his child and incurs a sentence of 2 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros. Another charge is brought against her: deprivation of care or food compromising the health of a 15-year-old minor by ascendant or person in authority. The main penalty incurred is 7 years’ imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 euros.
