A year ago, on February 6, 2023, the earth shook violently in Turkey and northern Syria, killing nearly 60,000 people. How were the 13 million euros collected during a concert evening organized by France 2 for the occasion used?
Aid is still arriving in trickles in certain regions of Turkey and in Syria, a year after the violent earthquake which struck them on February 6, 2023. The victims are still counting on humanitarian aid such as hygiene products . “Our village is far away, not many people come here, it’s difficult”confides one of them.
31 associative projects
In the aftermath of the earthquake, the Fondation de France collected 13 million euros in donations, thanks to a concert evening organized by France 2. 31 associative projects were financed in Turkey, to the tune of nearly 200,000 euros each: local washing machines, containers that make running water drinkable, etc. NGOs also provide food and hygienic products. “Milk and diapers are very expensive,” confides a young mother of two children. “I don’t know what we would do if they didn’t bring us any.”
