Hiking is a good practice for health. In the Hérault, hikers share their experience.

In the Hérault, in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, there is no shortage of hikes for walking enthusiasts. For four hours, they will discover exceptional landscapes. “Right now, I’m working on a university dissertation, it’s a lot of thinking, a lot of questioning. It’s a good way for me to release the pressure”, says Thomas Marty, a student. For Gerard Fontaine, “the emptiness is in the head” when he walks.

France would have 27 million walking enthusiasts, more than cycling or running. It has become a tourist attraction. “The idea is to talk about soft tourism, healing tourism”, explains Fabienne Barrere Ellul, director of the Tourist Office. More and more young people are turning to this practice in order to disconnect. As an ally for health, walking is good for the heart, bones and joints.
