Here are our 10 favorite Quebec songs of 2023

There is no shortage of talent in Quebec, and the year 2023 proves it to us again! Here are 10 songs that are particularly noteworthy, according to the team at Newspaper.

Confetti – Charlotte Cardin

Many of us listen to the English version of Confetti since its release, then to have added to this beautiful loop its French version when the singer gave it to us as an unexpected gift last May. This song is intended to be a very catchy tribute to introverted people. (SEN)

Paris – Évelyne Brochu

Évelyne Brochu is in love with the city of Paris and this is felt when you listen to and immerse yourself in the lyrics of her song bearing the name of the City of Lights. Her voice and her way of singing her loves sound “completely French”, throughout her second album bonbon, although called The danger. (SEN)

The liner Ingrid St-Pierre

Queen of words, the Lower Laurentian artist has released one of the beautiful songs about motherhood that we have heard on her latest album. In the most touching and beautiful way, she confides her anguish to her unborn child, this being who arrives in her life “like an ocean liner in a hotel swimming pool”. (CB)

Pressure Wild Things

Few local artists dare to venture into the world of cold wave and, even if it were, one wonders if it would be as successful as what Choses Sauvages offered us, which could not better musically support lyrics that address performance anxiety. (CB)

You Can Let Go – Half Moon Run

We have been following the Montreal group for around ten years now, and we have never heard Devon Portielje sing like this. This track takes Half Moon Run to another level and shows us that anything is possible for the trio. (RGM)

Le Roy, La Rose et Le Lou(p) – Theme song Ariane Roy, Thierry Larose, Lou-Adriane Cassidy

“The happiest song and up tempo of 2023,” we wrote in our pages a few months ago. And we haven’t changed our minds since. Ariane, Thierry and Lou-Adriane pull out all the stops on this dynamic, very melodic title. (RGM)

I dance – Maude Audet

Everything that Maude Audet has been doing in recent years has charmed us. And this song, a little more rhythmic than his usual compositions, has been widely played in recent months. A captivating piece that lives up to its name, because you want to dance while listening to it. (RGM)

Not you again – Greg Beaudin & Les Louanges

This collaboration appears most organic to us from the first listen. Hats off to Greg Beaudin for the versatility in the cadence of his rap and to the entire team for the production of this song which is, ironically, as catchy as it is melancholic. (AC)

Pauline on the farm – Philippe B

“Where would you like to put your heart?”, says Philippe B to his child in the pretty Pauline on the farm. With his pen as effective as ever, the talented singer-songwriter draws the contours of his new authorship in this folk song which opens a new part of his creative universe. (PM)

Contemporary Love – Dream

She intrigued us with her hit Whitney, last year. But in 2023, Montreal singer Rêve – Briannah Donolo, for short – has proven to us beyond any doubt that she is a formidable pop star with Contemporary Love, a danceable and intoxicating piece that has not left our speakers since its release. (BL)
